I would love a feature where one can define standard equipment "lists". For example, I have a specific gear configuration if I am spearfishing, a different one for teaching, a different one for search & recovery. it would be great if there were predefined "kits" that one can setup.

Yes, something like that is planned. For now, you can define templates which contain the "UsedEquip" field, and so have a similiar functionality.
